Vaginal Irritation Due to Bandages and How to Avoid It

As with other facial and body skin, the skin around the intimate organs also needs proper attention and care. It aims to keep the skin healthy, so that it can avoid the risk of irritation that can cause discomfort and loss of confidence.

The female area is one part of the body that is susceptible to irritation. Although generally harmless, vaginal irritation cannot be considered trivial. Because without proper care of the feminine area, this condition can be repeated, even causing more serious problems.

Vaginal Irritation Due to Bandages and How to Avoid It

Women's Area Vulnerable to Irritation

There is a layer on the outer part of the skin known as the horn layer. The female area has a fairly thin horn layer when compared to other skin areas. In addition, the condition is also easily affected by various things, both physical and hormonal factors. This causes the female area to be more irritated.

During menstruation, the female area will be more moist and sensitive than usual. Therefore, women who are menstruating are more at risk for vaginal irritation. Even some women do not realize that they experience irritation during menstruation. Irritation begins with the appearance of mild redness around the female area, which can then be accompanied by itching and skin rash. This condition certainly can interfere with the comfort of everyday activities.

Is it true that bandages can cause vaginal irritation?

Vaginal irritation can be caused by many factors, one of which is improper use of pads. Sanitary pads that are less elastic or have a rough surface will cause friction with intimate organs that cause injury or irritation. The constituents of sanitary napkins, including absorbents and adhesive pads, can also cause vaginal irritation in some women. In addition, irritation can also be affected by perfumes or fragrances and other chemicals added to the dressing.

The risk of irritation during menstruation will be even greater in women who do a lot of outdoor activities with hot air, including riding a motorbike or jostling on public transport. When you move in a hot place, your body will sweat. When sweating, the area around the intimate organs that is already damp due to menstruation, will become more moist again, so it is very susceptible to irritation. Especially if the pads used do not have sufficient absorption, and do not support good air circulation.

How to Prevent Menstrual Vaginal Irritation

Irritation can be prevented by treating the female area and applying healthy habits every day, especially during menstruation. Here are some tips that can be done to prevent vaginal irritation during menstruation:

  • Use clothing that is comfortable and not tight to reduce friction.
  • Clean the feminine area, enough with clean water. Do it after every bowel movement and when you want to change the pads, then dry with a tissue, towel, or soft cloth. Make sure there is no residue of tissue or yarn fibers attached to the surface of the intimate organ.
  • Choose pads that do not contain deodorants, perfumes, or other fragrances.
  • Choose a bandage with a soft surface and good air circulation ability, so that the surface of the female area has breathing space.
  • Change pads regularly, at least every 3-4 hours, to prevent the feminine area from getting too moist and reduce the risk of irritation. Change pads more often, if menstrual blood comes out very much.

Apply the above methods for menstrual irritation and other skin problems. However, if the irritation is worse until it interferes with daily activities, occurs more than a week, or accompanied by symptoms such as difficulty urinating, intimate organs feel sore, swollen, and reddened, you should immediately consult a doctor to get the proper examination and treatment .

Although both function to absorb and store blood that comes out during menstruation, sanitary products sold on the market have different types, sizes, and ingredients. Choose the type of bandage that is suitable for you, and always keep the cleanliness of the intimate organs to avoid irritation and other disorders.
